Toyota India disclosed its sales data, indicating a significant contribution from rebadged Maruti Suzuki models, accounting for more than 40% of their total sales. In line with this strategy, Toyota India has introduced the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor to the market. While the Taisor shares its platform and DNA with the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, there are key differences in design, variants, and after-sales service that set it apart.
Bold Design
The Taisor’s front features a signature Toyota look, reminiscent of the Innova. A large honeycomb grille with chrome accents dominates the fascia, flanked by C-shaped LED DRLs that double as turn indicators.
The LED headlamps sit lower on the bonnet, eliminating the need for fog lamps. A prominent air vent sits above a skid plate, completing the rugged aesthetic.
The side profile showcases a sloping roofline with integrated roof rails and a shark fin antenna. Diamond-cut alloy wheels with 195/60 R16 tires elevate the Taisor’s on-road presence. The rear echoes the front design with C-shaped LED taillights and a connected light bar. The raised tail and skid plate design further enhance the SUV character.
Interior: Familiar Yet Functional
The Taisor’s interior might seem familiar at first glance, drawing inspiration from Maruti models like the Maruti Suzuki Swift. However, the two-tone dashboard design creates a premium feel. A 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage, complemented by air vents and climate controls below. The multi-functional steering wheel offers control over audio and driving functions, with paddle shifters available in top-of-the-line variants. The rear seat provides ample space for three passengers and includes rear AC vents for enhanced comfort.
Engine and Transmission Options
Toyota offers two gasoline engine options: a 1.2L K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine producing 90PS and a 1.0L turbocharged engine generating 100PS. A CNG variant is available solely for the 1.2L engine.
Transmission options include 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT, and 6-speed torque converter automatic. Both engines get the 5-speed manual, while the automatic transmission is exclusive to the 1.0L turbocharged engine.
Variants and Warranty
Like other Toyota models, the Taisor comes in various trims: E, S, S+, G, and V. The base E variant features a manual transmission and CNG fuel option. The top-of-the-line V boasts a turbocharged engine with automatic transmission and all the bells and whistles. Toyota’s renowned brand loyalty is backed by a standard warranty of 3 years/100,000 km, extendable up to 5 years/220,000 km. Additionally, they offer 24-hour roadside assistance for added peace of mind.
