The TATA Safari first launched in 1998 as a mid-sized SUV in the Indian market, captured the attention of SUV enthusiasts due to its size. It gained significant popularity, leading TATA to achieve remarkable sales numbers, particularly in the year 2000. The 2nd generation was introduced in the year 2021 after more than a decade then the 1st gen. the meantime the Safari has received numerous updates like the #Dark, Gold, Jet edition. Now in the year 2023, TATA has launched a midlife upgrade to its SUV lineup TATA Safari and the TATA Harrier. The Safari always shared its DNA with the Harrier whether it be mechanical or in terms of design.
An all-new design, which is a blend of premiumness and ruggedness, makes the Safari stand out from its competitors. At the front, a chunkier grille with the TATA logo in the center is positioned underneath a long LED DRL light featuring integrated turn indicators at both ends. LED projector headlamps and fog lamps are included in the bumper package, with the air curtain beneath seamlessly unified into it. A large silver-colored skid plate-designed bumper element underlines the SUV’s muscularity.
The side profile of the car remains the same compared to the previous edition, except for the wheels. The SUV now features 19-inch tires with a new alloy wheel design. Similar to the Harrier, the Safari also displays its badging on the door panels. The rear of the car is simple, with a long LED tail light and a separate unit for turn indicators in the bumper, with SAFARI badging in the center. The silver-colored skid plate bumper design continues at the rear as well.
Engine & Tranmission
Tata has continued with the same 2.0L inline 4-cylinder Kryotec turbocharged Diesel engine, but it’s now BS6 Phase 2 compliant.
The engine is mated to a 6-speed Torque Converter Automatic with paddle shifters, and there is also a 6-speed manual transmission option. For better braking, the SUV gets disc brakes for all wheels.
In terms of dimensions, the new Safari is 4668mm long, 1922mm wide, and 1795mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2741mm. Speaking about the overall length, the car offers a boot space of 680L with the 3rd row folded.
Interior
The cabin on the new TATA safari looks roomier with a new color combination and is up-market by the addition of textured materials on the dashboard. Lots of tech has gone into the Safari 2023 starting with a new 12.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, underneath is the A/C controlled panel with dual-zone climate control (for which you need to take your eyes off the road while driving to change fan speed on the A/C temperature).
